Low Budget Christmas Decorations

We managed to lose a box with Christmas decorations. Don’t know how we did it but it happend and I’m not happy! Years of self crafted chrirstmas decorations. …. gone.
But my daughter (being the optimistic girl she is) came up with the great idea to start with a new christmad deco box.
The only problem….. no budget! !

Butmama (being the crafty mama who can’t throw anything out and always have some stash hidden away) went searching for what ever she could find christmas related, red and green stuff, basically what ever we could use!!!

Well this is what mama could find.

Flower

My latest craft project (just a little one) was this lovely flower form little girl to wear to the Christmas dinner at her school.

I saw this flower on a blog Sewing in no mans land and loved it!!

And so did little girl, luckily I had all the materials at hand, felt, hearbandand, glue gun and beads,  it took 30 min to make.

This is the end result.

Crafts

My last post was from three months ago!!! Due to illness I was not able to finish my mad men challenge by Julia Bobbins L, I was no allowed to work or sew due to neck, back and arm problems!

But now I’m felling so much better and I can slowly start doing my fav. Things ( I’ve missed it so much!!) I’m still not allowed to spend much time behind the sewing machine so I started with some little craft project  with the help of my daughter!! We had great fun making these stuffed animals and other crafts!!

Now I’m just waiting…… to finish my mad men dress!!!!

Beadz

November 2011

In between working, raising baby girl being a wife, sewing and sewing classes I also have to make time to make jewelry for our (my friend Maike and I) little boutique. I love creating new and fun
jewels, it takes some time but it’s always worth it. Here in Suriname the love jewelry made from natural materials (wood and seeds). The sift was difficult but I think I found the thing working for me ….wooden beads……. I decided to start with that and slowly work my way to the seeds, I like to deliver good work and understand the materials I work with and sometimes that can take some time (for me to be happy with the results). So it was a lot of work and then take it apart and start over again. I’m happy to say I’m getting there! It’s great to learn new things! I also bought some for my daughter and she loves working with me and creating her own  bracelets and necklaces to wear for when we go out!

Its all about Ribbons

During the school holiday I try to spend a lot of time with my daughter so there is not a lot of time for sewing, but I still want to be creative next to the kids crafting stuff. So when baby girl is sleeping I try to make little things that does not involve a lot of work. So I thought that since school is starting in October I could try to make some nice hair clips (hair accessories is a big thing in Suriname).

So to get some ideas and inspiration I went online and found a site that was just what I was looking for. Ribbon Covered Snaps ( copy right 2006 Trick of the Trade). You don’t need a lot of materials, you can make them while watching TV and be done in 30 min. I enjoyed making the clips and my daughter loves them and she looked cute wearing them.

Materials needed:

Ribbons, Glue gun, Hair clips and some Cute Ornaments to glue on top
